James & Jimmy Upton

1950

I am Jimmy Wray Upton.  Yes it is Jimmy, not James and Wray is not misspelled.   With that said I'll tell you a little about myself.  I guess you know from our homepage that I like genealogy and have worked with a multitude of people to gather information on all of my ancestors.

My life is typical of nearly everyone I know.  First the education, then the family, and work before you suddenly realize that you are getting older.  Well maybe it isn't quite that simple but it seems like it has been.

I was lucky to attend Delhi High School in Delhi, LA which provided me with many good teachers and a preparation for college.  My bachelors degree is in accounting from The University of Louisiana at Monroe.   I went through the normal growing pains that males experience when in college.  After a short stint in the Marine Corp, I had enough to put me on the right path and I went back to school and graduated.

It was several years before I saw the need to pursue a masters degree.  University of Mobile had a newly established MBA program and it's location was close so it was a good choice of where to go.  I enjoyed getting back in school and was reminded I didn't know everything.

I guess I'm "the lone man out" in this family.  Sharron, Jason, and Courtney all have personalities that are similar (they don't agree with that comment), but not me.  Let's see I think they say I'm anal retentive.  Enough said on that subject, but we do all love each other no matter how different our personalities

We have lived in Louisiana and Alabama since Sharron and I have been married.  The first few years we moved back and forth between Monroe and Lake Charles as I worked as a Construction Accountant for Ford, Bacon, & Davis Inc.  One of the jobs I worked was at Olin's Lake Charles plant and I went to work for them.

I've been with Olin for 28 years and unless they know something I don't I will retire from there.  Olin moved me into plant accounting and I am now the Financial Manager at their McIntosh, Alabama plant.
